UK Government Pays Microsoft £5.5M For XP Extended Support

Postby Ceil » 06 Apr 2014, 15:05

The UK Government has signed a contract worth £5.5M (almost $9M) for extended support and security updates for Windows XP for 12 months after April 8. The deal covers XP, Exchange 2003 and Office 2003 for users in central and local government, schools and the National Health Service. The NHS is in need of this deal because it was estimated last September that 85% of the NHS's 800,000 computers were running XP.

As much as I loved XP, it's time to let her go.

I dont know why you need support anymore. Isn't this why we have forums and such? The company I work for still uses XP oversees for there shops.

I think people are worried about windows updates for security related stuff, etc. Maybe I'm crazy.

I know alot of people that still have xp machines. Without the money to buy better, or lack of motivation to get a better one. Computer equals email to them. Newsreport here was that online banking might not be safe so that's the main question i get then, what to do about that.

Never thought about that. BUt yeah a lot of the people that just did email and browsed the web have "upgraded" to tablets or just use a smartphone. I still enjoy sitting at my desk even if its just to browse.
